Restore Volume to the Cheeks with This Dermal Filler in New Jersey
Compare the full curves of Jennifer Lawrence or Scarlett Johansson's cheeks to the angularity of Michelle Pfeiffer or Gwyneth Paltrow's, and it's easy to see how time saps volume from the mid face.
As we age, we lose the soft contours of youth. The cheeks fall and lose volume. The skin sags. With time, our cheeks can assume an aged, hollow appearance.
Voluma® restores natural fullness to the mid face. The latest innovation from JUVÉDERM®, it is the first and only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid facial filler to instantly add volume to the cheek area. With just one treatment at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Care in New Jersey, you'll appear years younger!
How does Voluma® filler work?
Volume loss in the cheek is caused by the age-related breakdown of collagen and elastin in the dermis (the innermost layer of skin) and from thinning of the fat layer under the dermis. Collagen and elastin are what give skin its elasticity. The subcutaneous fat gives it plumpness.
With time and gravity, these internal structures degrade. The skin loses firmness and fullness, and the fat pads may shift, creating a saggy or hollow appearance.
Voluma® filler safely and effectively replaces lost fat under the skin with hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring molecule found in the skin, thereby restoring volume to the cheek.
Where does Voluma® filler work?
Voluma® adds volume to the apex or apple of the cheek. Like a non-surgical cheek implant, it gives a subtle lift to the mid face, restoring a youthful curve to the cheek. Unlike facial fillers that are injected into the dermal layer of the skin, Voluma® filler sits on the bone, so it will not cause the pouchy "chipmunk cheek" appearance you sometimes see on the red carpet.
The three dimensional effect of Voluma® filler is apparent from every angle. Your face will instantly appear fuller and years younger.
What can I expect during my Voluma® filler treatment in New Jersey?
Voluma® injections at our New Jersey office are performed with a fine needle. Specially formulated with lidocaine (a type of anesthetic) to improve comfort during treatment, Voluma® filler is injected deep into the tissue. A topical numbing cream can also be applied prior to your treatment to minimize the "pinch" sensation.
The procedure typically takes less than an hour. Following the injection, Dr. Spey may gently massage the treated areas and/or apply a cool compress to reduce bruising and swelling. Most patients are able to resume normal activities the next day.
You may experience pain, tenderness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, itching, discoloration and/or bumps at the injection sites. Usually moderate in nature, these reactions can last two to four weeks. The most common side effect is bruising. We recommend that you schedule your Voluma® filler treatment accordingly.
The procedure is quick and easy. The results are immediate!
How long will the results of my Voluma® filler treatment last?
Voluma® is shown to last up to two years! Touch-up treatments may be required to achieve optimal results and to maintain your new look.

If for any reason you are unhappy with your treatment, Voluma® filler is reversible. It can be instantly dissolved with a simple injection. However, the likelihood that you'll want to reverse the results of your treatment is exceedingly slim. No patient at our New Jersey office has ever required it.
How does Voluma® filler differ from JUVÉDERM®?
Voluma® and JUVÉDERM® are made by the same manufacturer and are similar products, but they accomplish different things. As noted above, Voluma® restores volume to where it is lost in the cheek area.
JUVÉDERM®, however, is designed and FDA approved to treat wrinkles. Specifically, it smooths out lines of moderate or greater severity that form to the side of your mouth and nose, commonly called marionette lines and smile lines (or parenthesis). This is because, similar to Voluma®, it "fills in" areas that need filling in on the skin.
Both of these injectable facial fillers are available to New Jersey patients at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Care, where the staff can go into more detail about the benefits of each and explain what they can do for your face when used separately, together, or even combined with other treatments. BOTOX®, for example, is not a facial filler, but is FDA approved to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead and to the side of either eye.
A final word on Voluma® filler
Many people may offer Voluma® filler, claiming to be able to quickly and easily bring a youthful look back to your face. When looking for a provider, you should consider the source. While dentist offices and hair salons are now adding facial fillers to their menu of services, choosing a licensed, certified, and trained doctor with experience in focused skin care in general, and Voluma® filler specifically, can make a big difference to your health and beauty.
